Who:  ArtBark International & Friends
WEST COAST: July 23rd - August 4th, 2013

The ADaPT Fest returns to the U.S. with artists from Europe, the East Coast, & West Coast gathering to share performance installation, works in progress, and completed works by emerging, mid-career, and well established artists. We’ve set an intention of shifting the paradigm of how artists organize to nurture artistic growth in safe and supportive environments, build cross-cultural international community, increase performing opportunities for creatives at all phases of artistic development, and to have a rip roarin’ fun time throughout all phases of the process.
Each ADaPT Festival has a personality and life of its own with one thing in common – the festivals are MORE than an opportunity to share creative work in traditional performance venues. They include opportunity to network and connect with other artists building bridges of new opportunity; there is always a master class component; a component devoted to experimental work, and time for the artists to get to know each other while sharing meals together.

SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre hosted the inaugural ADaPT Festival in 2011 with over 22 happenings over the course of 3 weeks drawing artists from 5 different countries and 23 different cities. We called it the “kindly beast” and the event won a prestigious “indy award” for Artistic Direction.
In 2012 the Festival sprouted in Europe when 2011 ADaPT participant Regina Picker, inspired by the 2011 Festival, suggested it occur in Vienna Austria. She worked with Misa Kelly of ArtBark International, and RAW MATTERS organizing an experimental component to the Festival at ContraMass Galerie, Artist Dialogs, Master Classes and Performances at Palais Kablewerks. Artists from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Turkey, and Estonia participated as did 3 American choreographers. The Festival received a write up in GIFT magazine and was juxtaposed against one of the world’s largest international dance festivals – ImPuls Tanz as a part of the alternative scene.

In 2013 the Festival returns to the United States with ArtBark International (formerly SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre) hosting the festival bringing to life the vision of creating a festival that would serve as a mini-tour for participating artists with performing opportunities in three cities: New York, Santa Barbara, and Pasadena.
