ABOUT
Each Festival is Unique
Each Festival takes on a life and personality all it's own with one common denominator.

INSPIRING and TRANSFORMATIONAL for the audience and artists alike.

To date, the life energy of each Festival has been quite different and we attribute this to being open and sensitive to opportunities that present themselves and a heartfelt desire to do our best and tailor each festival to meet artists expressed wishes that surface.

Once an artist participates in an ADaPT Festival they are eligible to participate in our Affinity Project www.artbarkaffinityproject.org which affords artists the opportunity to deepen the artistic relationship by meeting again to share their work with each other in smaller scale festivals and productions.

Shifting the Paradigm
Presently we foster collaborative/co-creative sensibilities in interest of shifting the paradigm with regard to arts organization with the goal of continuing to generate new bridges of opportunities for artists between cities and countries.  We prioritize with providing opportunities to artists that are not only passionate about their life work as creative beings but are also passionate about building community and being a resource to others in that we believe this will best serve our vision.

Host Responsibilities/Artist Responsibilities
The Festival is a collaboration between the artists and the host organization.   In that the Festival is not always hosted by the same organization, some things differ from year to year, but presently there are a few items that remain the same.

The host is responsible for producing a well publicized event and covering all festival production and promotion costs. The artists take full responsibility for funding their journey to the festival, their creative costs, and cost of accomodations.

Artists, at this phase in our development are not remunerated for their creative contributions.

ArtBark International participates each year organizationally and is always availble to offer free consultation and support for artists undertaking efforts to fund their adventures to the Festival.

Past
2011 - SB-ADaPT Festival
West Coast: Events in Goleta, Santa Barbara, Venice Beach
hosted by SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre (now ArtBark International)

2011 was hosted by SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre (now ArtBark International) and drew participation from over 100 artists working in the fields of dance, physical theater, film, installation, visual art, poetry, performance installation, and experimental genres from 5 countries and 23 different cities.  22 happenings occurred at 5 different locations over the course of two weeks! Events occurred in Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Venice Beach.  It was a huge undertaking and we were rewarded with an Indy award for Artistic Direction of the Festival.  Local artists provided homestays to international artists and artists from the East Coast that requested help.

2012 - Raw Matters ADaPT Special
Vienna, Austria
hosted by Regina Picker, Raw Matters & ContraMass Galerie organized by Raw Matters, Regina Picker and ArtBark International

2012 sprouted in Vienna, Austria and was hosted by Raw Matters and Regina Picker with organizational support provided by ArtBark international. Events occurred at ContraMASS Galerie, the Belvedre museum (guerrilla style) with the bulk of events occurring at Palais Kablewerks.  Events in common with the 2011 festival included a space for performance installation, guerrilla style expressions, performances in a formal venue, master classes, time for artist dialog, time for the artists to eat together.  Palais Kablewerks provided free housing in their artist apartments to the two American companies that travelled to the Festival.  The event was covered by the Austrian Theater Magazine GIFT - juxtaposed against ImPulsTantz as a part of the alternative scene.

Now
2013 the Festival returns to the United States becoming a bi-coastal affair.

The Festival is a collaboration between the artists and the host organization, ArtBark International.  ArtBark International is responsible for producing the event and covering festival costs and the artists are responsible for funding their own journeys here.  The artists are not remunerated for their creative contributions.

Each Festival has a personality all its own and this time around we are shaking things up a bit by including components we haven't in the past.  This year each performance at Center Stage Theater will open up with a 1/2 hour pre-show featuring social dance forms with the audience invited to join the artists on stage to dance.  The performances themselves will open with a performance by young artists local to area.  This season the Festival is in part invitational and the focus is on deepening artistic relationships giving artists who connected at previous ADaPT Festivals and through our Affinity Project a chance to reconnect.
