SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre hosts its 1st
Bi-Annual Santa Barbara SB-ADaPT (A Dance and Physical Theater) Festival
- a conference that celebrates the movement arts and welcomes emerging
genres with countries represented include Slovenia, Turkey, Austria,
Israel, and the United States.
The Festival builds upon the
basic model of US Festival where the host company undertakes the task of
creating, organizing, and producing the Festival and participating
artists collaborate by funding the creation of their work and all travel
and lodging expenditures associated with attending the Festival.
SonneBlauma is expanding on this model by not only locating housing for
artists but through a special Crowdrise fund raising drive to help raise funds to help artists with their travel costs.
the Festival will have conference components that will include ample
time for artists to interact, network, and engage in dialog intended to
build local, national, and international dance and physical theater
community. It is our hope that this will lead to additional
opportunities for participating artists to take their artistry to places
they have yet to visit as well take their work to a new level through
During June 15th-June 19th this group of
gifted movement artists will present performances at Center Stage
Theater, a benefit for the Fishbon community at the Pescadrome, give
master classes at Center Stage Theater & share work in open and
At Center Stage there will be two different programs of dance and physical theater performed:
Program Alpha will be presented on 6/18 at 2pm and 6/19 at 7pm
Program Omega will be presented on 6/18 at 8pm and 6/19 at 2 pm
believe Festivals of this nature constitute some of the most important
work being done in the field of movement arts today. For the majority of
those realizing their lifework as movement artists (dance, physical
theater, butoh, mime), while they may be well known within their own
community, they most likely do not have the name recognition necessary
to attract an audience in a city they have never visited before.
they do not have the familiarity with the city necessary to be able to
effectively produce their work. Costs increase in that in addition to
the cost of their travel & lodging they have the cost of producing
This format ensures an audience will be present, that
the artist will receive good exposure from the local press, and saves a
great deal of time, energy, and money for the artist. The local
community benefits greatly by the opportunity to interact with new
artists that bring fresh energy & new ideas into the community.
It is with great delight that SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre launches its 1st bi-annual festival.
